Or, DHP.org’s review of the Holiday Show in Peekskill, NY
Don’t let the name fool you – it’s not a holiday show. It’s a cabaret show that happens to fall between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thankfully, it’s a very entertaining cabaret show, with plenty of crowdpleasing numbers and gentle banter (our heading being inspired by a zinger from David on the differences between Jews and WASPs).

David gets a good grilling from the San Diego Gay & Lesbian News about why he came out when he did and the politics of being a gay actor in a straight role. Very frank and interesting Q&A!
Oh the irony. On NBC’s Emmy-award winning series Frasier - which ruled the roost of television ratings from 1993-2004 — Niles is a quick-witted, polished, picky girly-man with a heart of gold and a hard-on for his father’s healthcare worker Daphne. He looks and acts as gay as a blue jay in May, but he’s tragically straight, which makes his effeminate nature and delicate bone structure (“Punish a man for being fine-boned,” he says when asked to stick his hand into a small disposal opening) all the more delicious.

Here’s a great new Q&A from the Times Herald-Record. Some Holiday Show tidbits, and also more details on the movie David starred in last winter, The Perfect Host (STILL in post-production it seems!).
Emmy- and Tony-winner David Hyde Pierce has fond memories of his humble beginnings in Saratoga Springs. He doesn’t have much of a reason to visit since his parents died, but he and his siblings did make the trip last month to honor their parents’ memory.

Very interesting interview from the Lower Hudson Journal News ahead of Michael and David’s Holiday Show premiere in Peekskill, NY this Saturday.
Neighbors might borrow a cup of sugar. Good neighbors might spend a week’s vacation together. Michael Feinstein and David Hyde Pierce — neighbors in Los Angeles — will spend the entire month of December together at Feinstein’s at Loews Regency nightclub, in what’s billed as a holiday concert.

We love us some Village Voice.
Feinstein, the fellow who lends his name to the room, has also been lending his increased presence this year as part of cleverly conceived duos. First he paired with Cheyenne Jackson, then Christine Ebersole, and now, to celebrate this deck-the-halls season, with Pierce, Frasier star and recent Tony-winning Broadway leading man. Obviously, they’ll include a few Christmas ditties and maybe even some Chanukah-y items—and could go occasionally, tastefully gay, since they’re both out and about.
We’re hoping it will be gay as Christmas! Check out the original article HERE.

David appeared yesterday on Life (Part 2), a PBS series focusing on the lifestyles of the Baby Boomer generation. In the episode ‘The Science of Happiness’, David spoke about his family’s experience with Alzheimer’s. You can watch the episode HERE. It’s touching stuff. If that doesn’t work for you, there’s also a transcript:
Robert Lipsyte: And now, being positive in the face of unhappiness. Actor David Hyde Pierce won four Emmys for his work on Frasier and a Tony for his work on Broadway. But he really should win an award for his work on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Association. David’s father and grandfather both suffered from dementia. Their caregivers, his mother and grandmother, gave out and predeceased their husbands. David brings a compassionate understanding of how far we’ve come in the battle against the disease and how far we have to go. David Hyde Pierce, thank you so much for joining us on Life (Part 2).

David was interviewed in California’s The Desert Sun ahead of his concert with Michael Feinstein this Sunday. David bursts our bubble in the first paragraph …
Television viewers may be abuzz about the Seinfeld reunion Sunday on Curb Your Enthusiasm, but don’t look for a similar get-together of the Frasier cast. David Hyde Pierce is happy appearing on Broadway and performing with Michael Feinstein, which he’ll do Sunday at the McCallum Theatre. “We have absolutely no interest in doing a reunion,” Pierce said of his Frasier colleagues.

Seattle’s The Stranger gave Stingray Sam a pretty favourable review.
Where Astronaut was practically operatic in scope, Stingray Sam is very much framed as a children’s entertainment—specifically an old-time Saturday morning serial. Each episode opens with a theme song (full lyrics: “Stingray Sam is not a hero/But he does do the things that folks don’t do that need to be done/He’s got a bravery inside/That won’t let him run away/Will not let him run”) and is narrated with enthusiastic, breathy gusto by David Hyde Pierce (who also helpfully reminds the kiddies at the top of each episode that the show is sponsored by Liberty Chewing Tobacco).

There are now pages for six David movies – Down With Love, Full Frontal, Little Man Tate, Nixon, Sleepless In Seattle and Wet Hot American Summer. You know the drill – check them out by hovering over the MOVIES option in the top bar! The pages now feature extended cast lists.
Pretty much all the static content from the old site has been added at this stage, and hopefully in the next few months we’ll add more movie reviews etc.
