gaysocialdhp‘Nother great Holiday Show review from the website GaySocialites.com!

Yet another duo cabaret act from Michael Feinstein, after two terrific match-ups with Cheyenne Jackson and Christine Ebersole (the show with Jackson was so successful that it was subsequently made into a terrific studio album). The previous shows were studies in contrasts, with Feinstein playing more or less the straight man to his more flamboyant partners.

dhpfeincabaretCabaret performer Jenna Esposito gives the Holiday Show a gushingly good review at her blog The Cabaret Chronicles over at BroadwayWorld.

Last Saturday, I headed to Feinstein’s at Loews Regency to see Michael Feinstein and David Hyde Pierce in their Holiday Show. What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday night in NYC! Both men are terrific performers in their own right, but what they managed to bring out in each other was simply spectacular! David Hyde Pierce, best known for his role as Niles on TV’s Frasier (for which he received multiple Emmy and Screen Actors Guild Awards), as well as leading roles in Monty Python’s Spamalot and Curtains (for which he won the 2007 Tony Award) on Broadway, is making his nightclub debut in this show, and it was truly an honor to have witnessed it! Blessed with an warm, easy baritone, he was not only a pleasure to listen to, but he was also incredibly funny.

Here’s a nicely bantery new interview with David by Jason Drew of AP-Red. There’s also a clip of David performing ‘You Won’t Succeed On Broadway’ at Feinstein’s at the Regency!

roomserviceFrasier writer Ken Levine was very complimentary about David on his (rather brilliant) BLOG this morning in response to a reader’s question:

In Frasier, I love David Hyde Pierce and his choice of reactions to comments. So often, it’s his reaction that makes the joke. The same with watching him do more physical comedy, such as falling. How much of that is written in the script, and how much is his choice?

Sometimes a reaction is written in because it’s key to his motivation to do something or another. But most of the time we just left David to his own devices. I can’t tell you how many times he saved our bacon by making lines and moments work that really shouldn’t have. As I’ve said before, of all the comic actors I’ve had the privilege of working with, David Hyde Pierce is the best. And here’s the thing, I’m sure there’s a lot of technique and craft going on in there but he makes it all seem absolutely effortless. I just marvel.

Bless! We marvel at you too, Ken Levine. You wrote ‘Room Service’ after all!

Go HERE to listen to an interview with David on AirAmerica’s The Lionel Show.

David Hyde Pierce calls in to talk inter alia about his upcoming stint at Feinstein’s club at New York’s Regency Hotel, new projects, and a groundbreaking Alzheimer’s documentary he was involved in.  He’s a Renaissance man indeed.

You’ll need Microsoft Silverlight to listen. (DHP.org is currently in a Silverlightless internet cafe and is most curious about the content of this interview!)

dhpwcbThere’s a new video interview with David at WCBSTV.com about the Holiday Show.

He also talks about his Grammy nomination for The Phantom Tollbooth and going to Sundance for The Perfect Host.

Thanks to iluvcioffi from the forum for the tip!

The New York Times gives the Holiday Show a very thoughtful review. Love that pic, too!

David Hyde Pierce exemplifies the Buster Keaton principle of comedy: If you begin with a poker face, a rigid posture and an attitude of wary passive aggression, all subsequent body language becomes explosively expressive. Add polished singing, and you have something more complex.

Here’s something to get you in the Christmassy mood – David performing Aaron Dai’s The Night Before Christmas with the Chelsea Symphony last year. He seems to be enjoying himself quite a bit!

David Hyde Pierce - Photo A.jpgAnother great review from The New York Post.

Television’s loss is our gain. Since his Emmy-winning turn on Frasier, David Hyde Pierce has brought his priceless comic presence to the theater (Monty Python’s Spamalot, Curtains), winning a Tony along the way. And now he has a nightclub act. Collaborating with Michael Feinstein for a holiday show, his wonderfully droll humor makes his partner seem more engaging than ever.
