David to star in Close Up Space
David will return to the New York stage this December as part of Manhattan Theatre Club‘s 2011-2012 season. Close Up Space is a new comedy about a stressed-out book editor. Here’s Playbill‘s blurb:
“Tony Award and four-time Emmy Award winner David Hyde Pierce brings his signature wit back to the MTC stage as Paul Barrow, an obsessive book editor on a major deadline. With an assistant who’s been camping in the office, a famous author threatening to bail on him and an intern who is no help at all, Paul’s just about had it! But when his fiery daughter shows up and lambasts him in Russian, Paul faces a glaring personal error that can’t be corrected with red ink.”
Previews begin 1 December with a premiere on 19 December. Right, who’s going?

David and Nick Tomnay talk The Perfect Host
The Perfect Host kicked off proceedings at the USA Film Festival in Dallas, and D Magazine featured an interview with David and director Nick Tomnay about the movie.
This is your first feature-length film, but I noticed you had a short in 2001 called The Host. Is this a spin-off of that?
Nick Tomnay: Yes. The Host was a short I did in Australia. Same story. And I expanded it into a feature.
So tell me how the idea for the story came about.
NT: It was based on a story I heard a friend of mine tell me about an incident that occurred with him and a guy that escaped from prison, which I thought was pretty interesting. I took that story and then kind of channeled some loneliness that I was feeling at the time into the script. Then it just sort of evolved, as these things do, and became funnier and darker.
